Downtown Bellefonte Bellefonte, Pennsylvania 16823
By Serge Bielanko
They said it would never happen.
They said,"Older people don't care about stuff like that!"
They said Halloween was kid's stuff and grown-ups would never bite.
But they were wrong...whoever they were. (Who the heck are THEY anyways?)
Because the time has come for one of the greatest ideas in the history of American Holiday Celebrations to become reality. That's right, you big overgrown teenagers with mortgages and three crabby kids and enough student loan debt to power up a small nation. The time has come for ADULT TRICK-OR-TREATING!!!
This Friday, October 25th, as part of their monthly Friday in the 'Fonte celebration, the folks at Downtown Bellefonte Inc. have come up with something brilliant. They're inviting grown-ups to come to town this Friday in full Halloween costume to trick-or-treat at a bunch of participating downtown small businesses. There will be prizes for the best costumes as judged by the store owners and staff, and more importantly: there will be a super time travel feel to the whole evening as people like you who haven't actually trick-or-treated for real for decades now are suddenly reintroduced to all the excitement of Halloween yesteryear flooding back to you.
Imagine moving down the streets with your costumed friends popping from shop to shop, hollering 'TRICK-OR-TREAT!!!" with all that familiar gusto shooting back through your bloodstream again after so many many years of forgetting how good it felt to be a kid in a plastic K-Mart Scooby Doo costume back in 1976.
Store owners will be handing out treats too, so it's not like you're not out there working for your booty, same as you used to do back in the day. And if they love your costume the best, they'll give you a sticker to wear. At the end of the night, at a Halloween Celebration Trick-or-Treating After Part at Bella Vino Wine Bar, 325 W High St, prizes will be handed out to the Halloweeners with most stickers.
So there is the thrill of being chosen as the very best lurking just around the corner of possibility here too. What more could any October-lovin' pumpkin spice-scented Red Blooded American Centre Countian possibly want out of an evening, you know?
The night will actually be kicking of in late afternoon, around 4pm Friday, and Adult Trick-Or Treating will take place from then until 8pm when the party down at Bella Vino kicks into high gear.
And make absolutely sure to stop in at one of your favorite shops first, because anyone who makes a purchase from a participating small business starting at 4pm Friday will receive a FREE custom tote bag to stash all their candy in.
So let yourself travel back in time by kicking off the weekend with some honest-to-goodness trick-or-treating for the first time in a long time. Tell your friends. Form a ghoulish gang just like the old days. What a night it will be.
