Dowtown Bellefonte, PA 16823

Bellefonte's monthly celebration of downtown action, affectionately dubbed Friday in the 'Fonte, is back again for September with an all new Board Game Night theme. Yep, the good minds over at Downtown Bellefonte Inc. have put together a night where small businesses can offer tons of specials and deals AND shoppers can not only save money and have fun, but they can actually play games in the midst of it all.
Just come down to Bellefonte this Friday, September 27th and you'll see.
Now, obviously this whole thing is greatly inspired by the folks at Jake's Cards & Games, 131 W. High Street. Jake's, if you're not familiar with the shop, has been around a long time and is one of central Pennsylvania's finest specialty game shops, bar none. Every employee there is knowledgable about board games, old and new. And in case you haven't experienced board games since you were a kid, let me just fill you in a bit. A LOT has changed. Sure, the old favorites remain, and if that's what you prefer to stick with, no problem. But you should also know that there are a legion of newer in-depth and unbelievably cool board games around today that aren't your Mom and Dad's Candy Land, friend. Games that challenge your intellect and make you more creative as a human now exist.
And guess what?
The Jake's Cards & Games people will be hauling a bunch of those games down to Bella Vino Wine Bar across from Talleyrand Park this Friday as part of this very first Friday in the 'Fonte Board Game Night I'm telling you about. You can bring a friend or two and learn a brand new game from a Jake's employee all while sipping on a glass of your favorite wine. OR you can bring your kids if you want, because the wine bar will be generously pouring 'mocktails' just for the under 21 set to enjoy while they try and beat their parents butts in their chosen game. There's also talk of snack being available, so let's just call this whole thing what it is, shall we?
The best chance you have this Friday for conquering a faraway kingdom, chugging a little red wine, and squashing your children like the pesky bugs that they are ALL IN ONE RELAXED SETTING...WITH SNACKS!!!!
Also, if you end up with Game Fever after all this hoopla, don't sweat it. Just swing into Jake’s Cards & Games shop from noon to 11 p.m for 25% off all in-stock board games THIS FRIDAY ONLY.
Of course, aside from the whole Game Night angle, there's always plenty of other excellent things happening on Friday in the 'Fonte.
Bellefonte Art Museum, 133 N Allegheny St, will be open from noon to 7 p.m and they'll be having a Final Friday Closing Reception. Exhibiting artists will be on-site, wine, snacks, and 10% off any exiting artwork means that any and all art lovers (or even just the Art Curious) will be glad they showed up to take in some works of beauty and sip a glass of vino like a cultured adult instead of the rambling hot mess you often feel like come Monday morning. Go feed your mind in one of our county's loveliest gems. This museum and you deserve each other.
Speaking of wine, wine, and more wine...Bonfatto’s Italian Market and Corner Cafe, 401 W. High Street, will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. And they will feature a free Italian wine sampling courtesy of Dillan Reed and Southern Wine and Spirits from 4 to 7 p.m. Plus you can get $1.50 single scoop ice cream cones. If no one's looking: you could probably walk over into the corner and dribble a bit of Chianti onto your ice cream. For real. Some things just have to happen and to heck with the Haters!
There's tons to do, taste, drink, buy, and smile at this Friday at the September Friday in the 'Fonte event. For a full rundown of all the participating local businesses just click HERE.
