This is the fourth article in a series spotlighting some of the local businesses in Bellefonte. Pop into one of these participating businesses- Alleycat Quiltworks, Bella Vino Wine Bar, Jake’s Cards & Games, Iron Star Trading Company, M&M Copy Service, Brother's Pizzeria, Pizza Mia, Elite Edge Athletics, Wireless Made Simple, Blonde Bistro, Bellefonte Art Museum or Bonfatto's- starting on Small Business Saturday, November 24th (and for a limited time after), to pick up your FREE BFT decal. It's our way of saying thanks for supporting all the independent shops and eateries that help keep Bellefonte so remarkably unique.
There is, perhaps, no finer pleasure in this cruel and lovely world than the simple act of sitting down after a hard day of holiday shopping, a glass of wine before you on the table, fairy lights twinkling all around.
You get where I'm coming from? Sore feet. Tired eyes. Your wallet took a pounding. You just need to sit back and listen to some Christmas music and smile at the fact that you are done. DONE! Every single person is crossed off your list and you are finished shopping for another year.
If you understand what I'm saying here, then you and I, my friend, are cut from the very same cloth.
Which is why I'm writing about Bella Vino Wine Bar for you. Located right downtown, just across the street from beautiful Talleyrand Park, Bella Vino is the kind of charming little place where the people in the know slip to when they need to let go of the hustle and bustle that drives all of us a little bonkers this time of year. Situated right along Spring Creek, with a grand view of lower Bellefonte, this might possibly be the very best post-holiday shopping stop you can make in Centre County.
Which is good, because this Saturday, November 24th is Small Business Saturday all over the land. And right here in Bellefonte that's a really big deal. After all, this is a town with an amazing community of small businesses and small business owners like Bella Vino. Towns like Bellefonte are wonderful and charming in a lot of ways and we all know it. But at the same time, it's easy to forget how lucky we are too. How many small Central Pa towns have their own wine bar, you know?! It's a taste of, I dunno... Rome or Paris right here, tucked between these ancient mountains where we live.
"This isn't our first Small Business Saturday," manager Loren Stamm explains. "it's a great way to bring people into our community and support local businesses. Bella Vino definitely sees new faces on that day."
New faces to enjoy a glass of wine or a specialty cocktail with a shopping partner after a day of hitting the shops in town. Or maybe just new faces swinging in for a coffee to get that much-needed jolt of mid-shopping energy. Either way, lots of locals know that it's well worth crossing the bridge to Bella Vino on a regular basis. Especially this time of year.
Does Bella Vino get decked out for the holidays? I asked Stamm. Is there a festive atmosphere going down once December rolls around?
"Absolutely! Christmas is my favorite time of year," she tells me. "We are completely decked out in holiday spirit. And throughout the holiday season we will be offering 10% off bottle sales and $1.00 of cocktails and wine."
You hearing this?
"Plus if you buy a case of wine (12) bottles, you get a 20% discount," Stamm continues.
Okay, but what if I'm hungry after all that shopping madness?
"We offer a local cheese and cracker plate to go along with our wine, and uniquely crafted cocktails. And we'll also be serving mulled wine made with our holiday spiced wine."
And while supplies last, you can also grab a BFT sticker absolutely free just popping into Bella Vino. These are super sharp decals, designed to help you let the world know you're Bellefonte through and through. It's a little holiday gift from everyone here at Bellefonte.com. But hurry, because they're extremely limited and only available at a handful of small businesses in town.
Now you know how to treat yourself to a well-earned drink this Saturday. Or any day you end up shopping in Bellefonte.
Cheers. And Happy Holidays.
